'Legendary & open' - the new PR blog culture
Trevor Cook's a lot more relaxed than I am about welcoming Hill &Knowlton's Breakfast Bytes to the PR blogging community. After all, this is the mob that invited Trevor to participate in one of its 'seminars' – and then, discovering he came from another PR firm, withdrew the welcome mat.
As Trev wrote at the time [see Hill & Knowlton and the 'branded' blogging event (8 March 2005)] …
“About one hour later, however, I got an email withdrawing my invitation because 'this is an H&K branded event' and management didn't feel 'comfortable with presenting someone from a competitive agency as a speaker at one of our own events'. So much for 'genuinely the whole community'.”
H & K Australia boasts of these events …
“Every few months, the crew at Hill & Knowlton Australia get so excited about an issue that we can't keep it to ourselves. That's when we hold one of our legendary, open, Breakfast Bytes seminars.”
Legendary, open … now I ask you …
Though, I did chuckle at their strategy of hosting a seminar on blogging and then setting up a blog. I guess that's called learning on the job or something. They probably got the 'get out there and do something' instruction from a head office in London or New York.
