Another Aussie social media entrepreneur
Phil Gomes emailed me this news this morning:
Some time ago, when I shut up shop at my old mouthpiece Citystate and moved to Larvatus Prodeo, I mentioned that I would niche blog cycling, well it's live and kicking with a few tweaks, adjustments and ad placements still to come. It's here.
Instead of going through th design process myself, I decided to use a professional blog design team to build the site because I have no experience with that end, even though I'm learning more every day. Peter Flaschner at the Blog Studio in Toronto came up trumps for me.
Apart from the usual blogging features, there is one unique thing to Spinopsys, I really wanted old content to live and not be stuffed into an archive, so the team at Blog Studio wrote a plugin for wordpress that would allow random posts from random categories to be present front and centre on the home page at all times, that way the older content still lives and hopefully generates some ad revenue. The plugin still needs a bit of work to make it totally random but I really like it.
A couple of of thoughts on the blogging thing.
As this blogging thing becomes more sophisticated and buisness models, still in their very early days, being developed by folks way smarter then me, I think this will be a growing option if you wish to present a professional front. I was looking for something that could be scaled up over time and something that could be pressented to those in the bicycle industry as a serious piece of media, as such, the response from the industry folks I have talked to so far has been positive because it presents as a professional front even though they still can't quite grasp the blogging thing.
I have support from a few of the industry folks now and they will be providing me with product to review etc....
Two, it's interesting that Peter has set himself up as a BLOG design business, now that's a good niche I reckon.
Good luck, Phil, we'll be watching your progress with interest!
Darn it, if I had known that this would have ended up on the Corporate Engagement blog I would have spent a bit of time crafting the e-mail.
Aaaaahhhh, hindsight.
Which brings me to lesson number two in the social media entrepreneur guide to avoiding gaffes.
If you are going to cross all of your T's and dot all of your I's spend some time crafting a semi professional media release or better yet, hire a media pro to do it.
Not only will it present your blog in a better light, but you'll provide a valuable social service in keeping the media guys living in the style to which they are accoustomed.
I can't thank you enough for this plug Trevor.
Cheers
