Should PR Students Blog?
incorporated subversion. I think they should be required (at least strongly encouraged). Its a great way to improve writing skills and to learn how to think about audiences and your relationships (and responsibilities) to them.
What's more if you become a PR blogger you can link into the best source of practical, current information and ideas on the industry anywhere (and for free!).
Last, PR people need to know about blogging, RSS, podcasting etc and doing it is a great way to learn.
Yes they should! For a superb example check out PR Blogger (http://www.prblogger.com/),hosted by Stephen Davies, a third year student at the University of Sunderland. Yes they definately should, but they should also be aware of what they are getting themselves into.
I'm a very recent PR graduate, and a very recent blogger.
I'm finding the experience to be greatly assisting my early professional development.
It helps my writing, encourages me to read widely about PR, and most importantly makes me think and reflect on the industry and my own activities.
However, there can be some drawbacks. A PR student new to blogging should take some time to familiarise themselves with the blogosphere, and what is required of them as a member.
My advice would be for them to talk to their lecturers and contact other bloggers before jumping in the deep end.
If there are any potential PR student bloggers reading this, please feel free to contact me for some advice.
