Nobodies: Silly, maybe, but well worth watching. The lesson for many PR practitionersis that in the communications business there is no such thing as a 'nobody' - and especially now when a range of social software tools gives a platform to so many 'nobodies'...

Trevor Cook

Yes but not nobodies surely we're all somebodies now

Philip Young

Precisely! Which was David Murray's mistake.

Trevor: the whole Nobody thing is a reaction against the idea that only movers and shakers have legitimacy.

It shows that a small (or large) group of people can connect around a concept, share ideas and maybe have some fun while doing it. All while proving the point that, in today's world, mainstream media only have as much credibility as they earn.

Trevor Cook

Yes Eric but why do you care. It reminds me of that old John Lennon lyric "You think you're so clever, classless and free. But you're still ******* peasants as far as I can see". Just ignore them mate. We should just do it and not try and win over the cynics. This is here, its happening. We don't have to wring our hands in anguish every time someone takes a potshot. Or make a contrived effort to ridicule it. The best response is to keep moving forward.

  • I am a doctoral student and tutor in Australian politics at the University of Sydney. My thesis is on the (changing) relationship between the ALP and unions. In semester 1, 2012, I am tutoring in Australian Politics (Govt 1101) and Australian Foreign and Defence Policy (Govt 2116). Between 1982 and 2007, I worked in federal politics (as a Ministerial adviser in the Hawke Government), the Australian public service and public relations. I have been blogging since November 2003 and over the past decade I have written many articles on politics, public relations and social media for newspapers, magazines and websites. I love literature particularly John McGahern and James Joyce.
