Blogging is where armies of unpaid non-journalists publish stuff just because they can, a sort of massive boom in vanity publishing. Harold Mitchell cites a forecast that the number of blogs worldwide will increase from 22 million in 2005 to something approaching 1 billion in 2010, which seems a nightmare to this non-blogging journalist.
Vanity publishing, really? One of the reasons I love blogging is that the news and information I can get in some niche, but important areas, is much better on blogs than in newspapers. Its not about vanity. Its about hearing the story direct from the experts.
