The "Off the Shelf" program for 27 February featured a highly sympathetic and admiring review of this collection of McGahern's non-fiction work (essays, book reviews etc). You can get on podcast from this site. Well worth a listen. I've read "Love of the World" and enjoyed it immensely, though some of the pieces probably didn't warrant collecting, but if you're a big fan of McGahern, like me, you'll be happy to read it all. A bonus is that McGahern can point you in the direction of some very fine writers. I'm now also a big fan of Alistair MacCleod, a Canadian writer with Gaelic (Scottish) ancestry, whose short stories are just stunning. And I've got his novel, No Great Mischief, on the shelf ready to be read.
