Laurie Taylor's Thinking Allowed is one of my favourite podcasts. Last week's episode was on "Christmas and class" (link for download):
The geographer, Steve Millington, finds that the distaste some middle class people feel for 'excessive' displays of xmas lights in working class areas reveals a narrative of class hostility which echoes Victorian attitudes to the 'undeserving' poor.
In the discussion on the program it is suggested that the new hostility, which includes an obsession with obesity, may be due to growing middle class insecurity.

There's plenty written about bogans in the mainstream and on twitter. Substitute the words "working class" for "bogan" and you see people getting their hate on.
