Australian IT professionals worried about employment & offshoring

From the Sydney Morning Herald: Employment and offshoring issues are still main concerns for a significant proportion of ICT professionals, according to an online survey of ACS members. When asked to list the top-five priorities for the ACS to address in 2004, 67 per cent of respondents placed employment at the top, followed by education and training (51 per cent) and professional networking (43 per cent). Offshoring ran a close fourth with 42 per cent. The ACS survey attracted 1745 responses from Australia and overseas. ACS president Edward Mandla believes more needs to be done to support ICT start-ups and encourage the growth of local ventures, as well as attracting multinational investment.

Europeans find it hard to stay awake on the job, says study Monster and Jobline Inc study "Long workdays, routine tasks, meetings that drag on, and staring into the monitor are prompting workers around Europe to fall asleep at their workplace," one of the survey's co-authors, Internet jobs site Jobline, said in a statement. The poll showed 24 per cent of respondents had fallen asleep either at their desk, in a meeting or in the toilet. Thirty-nine per cent said they had not fallen asleep at work, but had to make an effort to stay awake."
