ABC denies age behind Sargeant sacking.
the ABC wanted to update its netball commentary team with people who had recent experience in playing the game at a national and international level.
But if they're serious, wouldn't they apply the same rule to male sports commentators?
This story is also on the front page of today's Sydney Morning Herald, above the fold. (15 May, 2006)
It'll be very interesting to see how this one plays out.
I wonder if Ms. Sargeant is member of the applicable union.

Imagine what would have happened to Richie Benaud if Channel Nine had taken this 'recent test experience' idea on board!

No story I believe. Commentary teams are always injecting new blood - you only have to look at the AFL turnover to see this. The ABC would be looking of ways to jazz up the broadcast and a few fresh faces might attract younger viewers. Good common sense.
Watch the changes in cricket commentary now that Kerry Packer is no longer with us. Does anyone think Tony Greig will be pushing a key into an Australian pitch this summer?
It reminds me of that Play School whinge a few years ago when a sixty year-old cried unfair dismissal. I mean, come on. Things move on. Crazy to make a story of this.
