Meetup with Erin Caldwell and Paull Young

Enjoyed meeting these two bloggers and podcasters for the first time today. Erin is in Australia for a week's hols before starting with Edelman in Washington in July. Paull does PR for racing cars and stuff on the Gold Coast. You could hardly pick a better time to be starting on a career in PR in my view. With the arrival of social media, massive new opportunities are opening up for people who understand communication. Even though Erin is in Alabama and Paull is in Queensland, they cooperate very effectively on the Forward blog and podcasts. A level of global co-operation that was barely imaginable even a few years ago.

Moving away from the tradition of journalism Gee, I’m not so sure I want to read this….. I, Journalist [it’s a book] invites journalists, and people wanting to enter the journalistic field, to take a hard look at the place occupied by their line of work in the 21st century. It views journalism as a kind of knowledge and skill which is very central to surviving and prospering in the new economy – an economy built increasingly on communication and creativity. It is even suggested that everybody could do well to become a journalist, at least to some extent. Not that the path will be easy and...
